2025–2026 The Max Thelen Studio Residency
The Max Thelen Studio is a studio residency program generously funded by the Fenwick Foundation in commemoration of Max Thelen Jr. The residency aims to support emerging artists by providing free studio space, exhibition opportunity, and exposure to the public for one year.

“When my family moved from France to California over a decade ago, I had the opportunity to rekindle my childhood flame for ceramics: a life-changing moment that led me to embrace the artist I had always been.

My artistic voice is the narrative outlet of an overactive inner world, deeply influenced by the myths and stories I grew up with. I aspire to create artwork that resonates profoundly with the viewer’s own inner world: by slowing down to take in the details of a piece, they can weave their own narrative.

Each artwork is born from a slow and meditative process where the central figure is hand-built, carved, and finished with underglazes and selective glaze. I prefer working with porcelain for its specific properties that allow for very delicate details. After the ceramic figure is fired, I take the time to carefully complete the sculpture with wire, glass, and found or made elements.

Art Works Downtown is one of the great gifts offered to artists and collectors in Marin County, and I am thrilled and honored to be the recipient of the Max Thelen Residency for 2025-2026.”
