Public Art

Propane Tank Chaise by Colin Selig

Art is all around you. As an advocate and resource for art in our community, we work with other arts organizations, businesses, and government to promote art outside our walls – both in local venues and in outdoor areas of San Rafael.

Outdoor Sculpture Program

This program places outdoor sculptures and other installations on view in public locations in and around the downtown area. An ongoing partnership between Art Works Downtown and the City of San Rafael, AWD's Outdoor Scupture Program regularly selects new works for display.

See the map below for a guide to some of the places art is displayed in San Rafael,
and CLICK HERE to view a gallery of some of the public art that AWD has installed.

Submit your work

Work should be innovative in design and materials, appeal to a wide audience, and be large enough to be seen from the street. Entries are accepted year-round, and installations and sculptures are chosen by a jury of artists.
