in the Underground Gallery

RECEPTION + BOOK RELEASE: January 14 • 5-8pm

This series of photographs is a visual meditation on the hero's path in traditional western mythology. As the legends go, a hero begins his / her journey by leaving home and, with it, the innocence of childhood. Overcoming the challenges discovered en route, the hero is transformed; returning home greater than when he / she departed. The stars were often guides along the way, signposts that gave direction there and back again. Frequently, as the fables grew with each re-telling, the constellations themselves became a record of the journey, and an inspiration for others to follow their own.

Miguel Farias earned his BFA in Photography from the San Francisco Art Institute, where he studied with Jack Fulton, Linda Connor, Reagan Louie, Hank Wessel and Pirkle Jones. A San Francisco Bay Area native, his work is informed by the multicultural perspective of the region, particularly the aesthetics of the Pacific Rim. His photographs have been shown internationally and are in a number of private and corporate collections.
